The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of our God.
They still bear fruit in their old age; they are ever full of sap and green,
to declare that the Lord is upright, He is my rock,
and there is no unrighteousness in Him!
~ Psalm 92:12-15
Happy Thursday my dear Sisters!
Ted and I both had ‘milestone birthdays recently…. we became ‘senior citizens’! Normally our birthdays come & go without a whole lot of fanfare, but not this time! Our mailboxes, both physical and electronic, have been cram packed with offers from insurance companies, passive aggressive notices from the Social Security Administration and countless ads for cures for whatever might be ailing us. The perils of growing ‘old’!
The world’s view of aging is not a very positive one. (even as I write this, ads for burial plots are popping up on my laptop!)
But, you know what? God doesn’t see it that way! Read that verse on top again! In Him, we will flourish! In Him, we are planted! In Him, we will still yield good fruit! In Him we will have strength and energy to declare that He is upright!
The Lord promises us good in our old age! From the Old Testament through the New Testament and places in between, God declares that no matter how old we are, He will keep working to mold us more into His holy and perfect image!
Jeremiah says, “‘For I know the plans I have for you’, declares the Lord,’ plans for welfare and not for calamity, to give you a future and a hope.’” (29:11). He isn’t going to stop working on us as we age, and the ‘welfare’ isn’t the kind that means we will stop working either!
Paul assures us in Philipians, “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 1:6) He wants to keep perfecting us until the very day we come to Him in Glory!
1 Cor 1:8 says that God will continue to strengthen us until the end, so that we will not be lacking in any gift and found blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ!
The world does everything it can to keep from growing older, but children of God only grow better! God’s faithful and enduring love for us throughout our lives causes our love for Him to grow and flourish, bearing good fruit even in our ‘old age’.
The Lord never wastes a single day of our lives. As we become confident in His love and forgiveness, we become more assured and trusting in Him.. As we dig deeper into His eternal Word, we become more rooted and grounded; built up in Him and established in our faith! (Col 2:7) We grow in a positive direction, turning our faces toward the Son.
So, my sister, let us keep growing in our walk with the Lord! Let us allow our faith to grow; putting down deep roots into His Word, watering those roots daily with prayer and weeding out the voices of the world! God promises that we will flourish in His Presence! We will bear fruit and reap an abundant harvest! He, alone, is our Rock! This is the plan the Lord has for us!
The Lord woke us up today for a reason, He has a plan! Why not ask Him? He promises to guide our steps!
Let’s keep loving Jesus and moving forward!
With love, your sister, Celeste
